“Follow the Flag”

The Wabash Railroad served the “Heart of America,” operating in six states; Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, plus, the Canadian province of Ontario. A freight advantage for the Wabash was the main line from Kansas City to Buffalo, which avoided St. Louis and Chicago. The Wabash also operated several beautiful streamlined passenger trains, including the “Blue Bird” and the “Canon Ball.” Even though the Wabash was gone by the 1960s, the company still existed on paper until 1997 when it merged with the Norfolk Southern Railway.
